Majority of College Students Prefer Buying Used Textbooks

Postby cheap-textbooks » Wed Jul 25, 2012 5:20 pm

Textbooks.com, an internet textbooks retailer, just conducted a buyer survey to learn university students' textbook buying habits and identify what drives scholars to buy used textbooks over new, rental and eTextbooks. According to the survey, sixty percent of scholars ranked used textbooks as their most preferred choice, and 91%claimed they saved cash when buying used textbooks. "Understandably, scholars are cost conscious and care about the cost of textbooks because in several cases, they are the ones footing the bill.

Seventy-four percent of student purchasers fund textbooks themselves," shared Susan Thompson, Director for Textbooks.com. "Students think new books are too costly and they are comparing costs online and in their campus bookstores to find the best prices." The survey proved that quality matters when referring to used textbooks.

A lot of buyers reported they would have liked a used textbook that either looked brand spanking new, with no marks, or a delicately used book, with minimum highlights and notes.

"This is something we have heard for a long time," continued Thompson. "Students don't really want to spend top dollar on a new book - they'd like to save cash, so they turn to used textbooks. Scholars need prime quality, competitively-priced used books and we are happy to be well placed to serve that need. We are the only textbooks supplier to hand check all our used textbooks. We'd like scholars to economize but we also desire their experience to be positive." With scholars heading back to school immediately, buyers were asked how their buying habits would change in the subsequent year and 39 % replied they will buy more used textbooks this year.
